As the coronavirus pandemic continues, another restaurant on Chapel Hill’s Franklin Street has shuttered its doors.
Moe’s Southwest Grill, a chain that serves Mexican and Tex-Mex favorites, is permanently closing its location at 110 West Franklin Street. The restaurant had inhabited part of the building since 2015.
The closing of Moe’s marks the latest in a series of Franklin Street and Chapel Hill businesses that have not made it through the ongoing economic challenges presented by COVID-19. In April, Lotsa Stone Fired Pizza announced the difficulties of operating during the pandemic led them to permanently close its doors. More recently, Lula’s Fried Chicken and Ms Mong on East Franklin Street announced they too would not be reopening even when the pandemic is over.
Prior to housing Moe’s Southwest Grill, the 110 West Franklin Street location had been home to a Caribou Coffee shop and a Pizza Hut franchise. The building has been on the historic street since 1937 and was previously a pure oil and gas station.
