A teacher at Williams High School is scheduled to appear in Alamance County Court on Monday after being arrested on charges of sexual activity with a student.
Burlington Police say last Wednesday they were notified by administrators of an ongoing inappropriate relationship at Williams High School between a student and a teacher.
Investigators say 34-year-old Robert Carlsson Wooten, of Burlington, was allegedly having a “personal relationship” with a student of the school while he was employed as a teacher.
Wooten was charged on Friday with one count of sexual activity with a student by a teacher and one count of indecent liberties with a student by a teacher.
Multiple outlets are reporting Wooten resigned from Williams High on Thursday. He had been a social studies teacher at Turrentine Middle School – which feeds into Williams High – since 2005 and moved to Williams High in 2015.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and administrators with the Alamance-Burlington School System were assisting.
Wooten was released from custody after posting a $40,000 secured bond but is scheduled appear in court on Monday afternoon.
