A Chatham County man is being charged with multiple felonies after authorities executed a search warrant at his residence, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said Monday. Matthew Ray Brasington, 38, has been arrested in connection with activity on KIK, an online private messaging app.

The sheriff’s office says it was first notified of Brasington after being contracted by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children last Tuesday. The Center reportedly provided the sheriff’s office with information about sexually explicit photographs taken of a juvenile at a home on Manns Chapel Road in Chatham County. The photos were reportedly shared with an unknown person.

According to the sheriff’s office, it executed a search of Brasington’s residence at 4563 Manns Chapel Road and found sufficient evidence to arrest him. Brasington is being charged with three felony counts of first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, three felony counts of indecent liberties with a child and three felony counts of crime against nature. The sheriff’s office says the child in question has been identified and is in a safe environment.

No bond has been issued. Brasington is set to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on November 24, 2025.
