
The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office says it has secured warrants for a Durham man in connection with a series of crimes reported the morning of Aug. 17 and is actively searching for him.
Keshaun Christopher Byrd, 24, faces multiple felonies, including two counts of larceny of a motor vehicle, three counts of breaking or entering a motor vehicle, one count of safecracking and one count of larceny of a firearm.
In August, deputies say they initially responded to a residence on Lystra Preserve Drive, located between the Briar Chapel and Governors Club neighborhoods, after the homeowners reported that their garage had been entered around 3 a.m. and that someone had attempted to steal a safe. The sheriff’s office says an ensuing investigation discovered the suspects had used a vehicle stolen from nearby Lystra Road to commit the break-in. Authorities then said a second vehicle was reported stolen from Rolling Meadows Lane and a firearm was reported stolen from a residence on Zephyr Drive. The two residences are located within minutes of each other, east of downtown Pittsboro near Jordan Lake. The sheriff’s office says the first stolen vehicle was later found burning.
The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office obtained warrants for Byrd Thursday. At the time of publication, Byrd has not been located.
Authorities are asking anyone with information as to Byrd’s whereabouts to contact the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office at 919-542-2911 or to call 911. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office app.
