There’s been another recent string of electric scooter thefts on UNC’s campus.
The university’s police department shared an Alert Carolina message to the community on Friday night. Three reports of stolen scooters have been shared with police in the last week, according to UNC. Despite the thefts being reported in different parts of campus, investigators said they are not ruling out the possibility they are connected.
UNC alerted the community to similar thefts of electric scooters in November.
The university requires electric scooter-users on campus to park their motor vehicles in designated areas and to register them through the campus Transportation & Parking Department. UNC says doing so, as well as using a U-lock or other secure devices when storing a scooter, should help prevent thefts or aid recovery efforts in case they are lost.
Anyone with information potentially helpful to the ongoing investigation is encouraged by UNC Police to call the Criminal Investigations Division at 919-966-2120. If anyone notices “suspicious activity” around bike racks or the scooter parking areas, Friday’s Alert Carolina message said they are encouraged to call 911 immediately.
