A business off West Franklin Street is picking up the pieces and investigating an overnight break-in on Friday.
The metaphysical and spiritual gifts shop Quantum Soul located at 109 Graham Street reported damage and stolen items to Chapel Hill Police shortly after 10 a.m. on Friday.
Lynn Swain, the co-owner and operator of the store, told Chapelboro they believe the break-in happened after 2:30 a.m., which is when a potential witness saw someone acting suspiciously in the alleyway between Quantum Soul and Lapin Blue. The thief broke into the space’s side window with the help of a chair taken from the nearby bar. Swain said missing items so far include the money from the register, the cash and deposit bag used to fill the register, and several crystal skulls.
Swain described the incident as “unbelievable” and a damaging time with holiday shopping happening through the community. She confirmed she plans to press charges as Chapel Hill Police and the store investigate the matter, and added camera footage from the shop and nearby businesses is being reviewed.
“We would appreciate any community members with knowledge or information about this — because, you know, people talk when this stuff happens — to text me directly,” Swain said, offering up her number of 919-717-9115.
While the break-in is a set-back, Swain said Quantum Soul is not closed for business on Friday. She said the glass was quickly replaced and she urged any community members and patrons to swing by to help as the store begins to figure out its next steps.
