Two UNC men’s golfers are among the 30-man watch list for the Ben Hogan Award, which was released Tuesday afternoon. Senior Ryan Gerard and junior Austin Greaser find themselves among the list for the award, which is given to the top college golfer in the country.

Carolina is one of seven programs in the country with at least two players on the watch list, a group which includes No. 1 Arizona State, No. 3 Oklahoma and No. 4 Oklahoma State. UNC is currently ranked No. 5 in the latest Golfweek team rankings.

Gerard is ranked as the No. 12 college player in the country by Golfweek, and leads Carolina stroke average. He’s currently on-pace to have the second-lowest scoring season in program history, and already has an individual title to his name this season at the Rod Myers Invitational.

Greaser is ranked No. 25 by Golfweek, and like Gerard has a tournament title under his belt this season. Greaser took first place in the Olympia Fields Invitational in September, triumphing over a field which included several top 5 foes. Outside of the college circuit, Greaser also placed second in the U.S. Amateur Championship during the summer, which guaranteed him spots in the 2022 Masters and U.S. Open later in the year.

The 10 semifinalists for the Hogan Award will be revealed April 15, though it may not include names from the watch list. Three finalists will be named on May 5, with the Hogan Award winner being named on May 23.

Mark Wilson is UNC’s only winner of the Hogan Award, having won the honor in 1996.
