Both Ruby Grant and Brianna Pinto each scored three times on Saturday in Knoxville to help deliver a commanding 7-0 win on the road against Tennessee.
Grant and Pinto became the first Tar Heel teammates to each record a hat trick in the same game since Aja Parsons and Joan Dunlap accomplished the feat back in 1984 against Warren Wilson.
It took nearly 24 minutes for UNC (13-1-0) to get on the board, but once Grant scored the first goal, Pinto found the back of the net less than two minutes later.
Grant added another before halftime to give the Tar Heels a 3-0 lead at the break.
Isabel Cox notched UNC’s first goal of the second half in the 76th minute, while Pinto scored twice and Grant scored once over the final five minutes.
Tennessee (8-6-1) was limited to just one shot on goal for the entire match.
