The Town of Chapel Hill is inviting community members to attend an information and input session on traffic calming measures planned around the incoming Wegmans grocery store.
The meeting is set for Thursday, March 5, at 6 p.m. and will be held in Room A of the Chapel Hill Public Library. The public will learn more information about the traffic calming strategies the town is considering to help the residential streets surrounding the Wegmans property. According to a release from the town, the measures being considered are ones discussed or offered at previous community meetings held last year.
Some of the measures from past presentations include installing all-way stop control, speed tables, on-street parking and other devices around the adjacent streets. Other options have been ‘No Through Trucks’ and electronic speed display signs.
Work on the property is underway to prepare for the new 100,000-square-foot Wegmans, a $30 million development that’s been in the works since 2017. The store is slated to have an opening date sometime in 2020.
To learn more about the project, visit the Town of Chapel Hill’s web page about the development.
