Chapel Hill community members and shoppers now have an even clearer timeline of when to expect the new Wegmans grocery store to open.

A press release from the New York-based supermarket chain said the new store at 1810 Fordham Boulevard is planning to open its doors in February 2021.

The 99,000 square-foot store has been under construction since early 2019, with workers continuing through the COVID-19 pandemic to complete the building. The chain said in September the new store was set for a spring 2021 opening.

Wegmans’ release also said the Chapel Hill location is working to hire part-time employees. Around 300 part-time jobs are available and some select full-time jobs, like cooks or overnight grocery, are also still open, according to the supermarket chain. The Fordham Boulevard store is expected to employ around 450 people upon its opening.

The Chapel Hill location will become the third Wegmans in the state, following one opening in Raleigh last year and another in Cary this year. A Wake Forest Wegmans store is now slated to open in May 2021.
