A newly-formed political action committee called Save Orange Schools recently shared its endorsements for candidates in the Board of Orange County Commissioners races.
Save Orange Schools, or S.O.S., endorsed two candidates: Amy Fowler and Jean Hamilton. Fowler is running for the at-large seat and Hamilton is running for one of the two District 1 seats. Both Hamilton and Fowler either have served or are currently serving on the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School Board.
In a press release about its endorsements, Save Orange Schools said it selected the pair of candidates based on their responses to its questionnaire and recent forum held by the CHCCS PTA Council and Chapel Hill-Carrboro chapter of the NAACP.
Save Orange Schools was formed in 2020 by concerned Orange County parents and community members, according to the release. The PAC’s goals are to advocate for safer school buildings and to endorse candidates to prioritize increasing the funding to improve safety.
