As voters across North Carolina begin to head to early voting sites, two organizations recently shared their endorsements for Orange County’s Board of Commissioners race.

The Chapel Hill Alliance for a Livable Town advocacy group, also known as CHALT, voted to endorse candidates on February 8 and voiced its support for candidates Jean Hamilton and Amy Fowler. Hamilton, who is running for one of the board’s District 1 seats, and Fowler, who is running for the at-large seat, are both challengers in their respective races. CHALT listed Hamilton’s temperament and data-driven decision-making history and Fowler’s commitment to prioritizing funding for school programs and facilities as the driving factors for their endorsement.

CHALT also voiced its support for Renee Price, who is running unopposed for her District 2 seat.

The Sierra Club also published its endorsements for candidates across the state, including in Orange County. The environmental advocacy group endorsed incumbent candidates Mark Dorosin, Mark Marcoplos and Penny Rich for the Board of Orange County Commissioners. Dorosin and Rich are running in the District 1 Race and Marcoplos is running for the at-large seat.

The Sierra Club also endorsed North Carolina House representatives Verla Insko and Graig Meyer in their races for District 56 and District 50, as well as state senator Valarie Foushee in her race for District 23.
