Aaron Fitt, of D1Baseball.com, reported Thursday that UNC sophomore closer Josh Hiatt–a preseason All-American–has been suspended indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team.

UNC baseball confirmed the suspension to WCHL but offered no additional details.

So far this season, Hiatt has pitched in 17 games and tallied just three saves. He’s been steady, however, posting an ERA of 2.67 over 30.1 innings out of the bullpen.

The loss will be a blow to UNC’s depth out of the bullpen, but with a team ERA of 3.58 there have been plenty of other names who have stepped up this year and done the job just as well.

Next up for the Tar Heels is a critical three-game series in Raleigh this weekend against No. 3 NC State.
