After a pair of impressive wins over the weekend–coupled with a loss by then No. 3 Kansas–the UNC men’s basketball team moved into the top five in the AP Poll for the first time this season.

Ranked No. 6 in the preseason, the Tar Heels picked up a road victory over Tulane on Friday before blowing out Chattanooga by 40 points in their home opener on Sunday.

In the new poll released on Monday, UNC moved into the No. 5 slot–with Duke, Kentucky, Villanova and Oregon making up the rest of the top five.

The Tar Heels will be in action two times this week, hosting Long Beach State on Tuesday night before traveling to face Hawaii on Friday.

UNC will then stay out west for the Maui Invitational next week. It’s possible–depending on how the bracket plays out–that the Tar Heels could face Oregon in a top five showdown as part of the event.

Other ACC teams among the top 25 include No. 8 Virginia, No. 12 Louisville and No. 18 Syracuse.

Florida State, Miami, NC State, Virginia Tech and Clemson each received votes, however, but were left on the outside looking in.
