A stunning loss to Wofford last Wednesday at the Smith Center played a large role in UNC’s slide down the polls this week, as the Tar Heels fell eight spots from No. 5 to No. 13 in the AP Men’s Basketball Top 25–which was released Christmas Day.

Although UNC played well in a win over Ohio State this past Saturday, Wofford came to Chapel Hill as Ken Pomeroy’s 197th-ranked team in America.

Villanova, Michigan State, Arizona State and Duke still make up the top four teams in the rankings, with Texas A&M taking over for the Tar Heels at No. 5.

The rest of the top 10 includes: No. 6 Xavier, No. 7 West Virginia, No. 8 Wichita State, No. 9 Virginia and No. 10 TCU.

A pair of Big 12 programs–No. 11 Kansas and No. 12 Oklahoma–sit just in front of UNC.

The ACC has a total of five ranked teams this week when taking into account No. 15 Miami and No. 24 Florida State. Only the Big 12–which has six ranked squads–has more.

UNC will return to action on Saturday when it hosts Wake Forest in its first ACC showdown of the year.
