Convincing wins over then No. 7 Louisville at home and over Pittsburgh on the road this past week were enough to launch the UNC men’s basketball team back into the top five.

The most recent AP Top 25–which was released Monday afternoon–had the Tar Heels moving up three spots from No. 8 to No. 5 after clinching at least a share of the ACC regular season title.

UNC is now the highest ranked team from the ACC, while also leading the conference standings by two full games with two games to play.

Kansas moved up to No. 1 this week after Gonzaga suffered its first loss of the season Saturday night at the hands of BYU.

The Zags slipped to No. 4 in the most recent poll–just ahead of the Tar Heels and behind No. 2 Villanova and No. 3 UCLA.

After losing to UNC last Wednesday, Louisville dropped one spot to No. 8. The Cardinals are the only other ACC school among the top 10.

Florida State–at No. 15–is the next highest school in the poll–with No. 17 Duke, No. 19 Notre Dame, No. 23 Virginia and No. 25 Miami following close behind.

No conference has as many teams in the AP Top 25 as the ACC’s seven. UNC will also close its regular season with a pair of top 25 matchups inside the conference.

First the Tar Heels will travel to face Virginia on Monday night, before hosting Duke at home this Saturday.
