It took two overtimes to do it, but the 16th-ranked James Madison Dukes used a game-winning goal from Kristen Gaudian on Saturday afternoon to finish off a 15-14 upset victory at home over the No. 3 UNC women’s lacrosse team.

For Gaudian, it was her fifth goal of the afternoon–and second with a major impact on the game.

She previously scored with just under two minutes left in regulation to tie things up, as James Madison rallied from two goals down in the final five minutes.

Elena Romesburg also had five goals for the Dukes, who earned a signature victory on the season’s opening day.

UNC star midfielder Marie McCool led the way for head coach Jenny Levy’s squad–scoring four goals on eight shots.

Katie Hoeg added three goals for the Tar Heels, while seven players each chipped in one apiece.
