The top-ranked UNC women’s lacrosse team had another successful day at the office on Sunday at Dorrance Field, cruising to a 15-5 victory over No. 24 James Madison.

Senior attacker Katie Hoeg–the program’s all-time leading point scorer–tied her career-high with nine points in the game, scoring five goals and dishing out four assists.

The Tar Heels (9-0) also received four goals and two assists from all-time leading goal scorer Jamie Ortega, while Scottie Rose Growney added six points of her own with three goals and three assists.

UNC built a 6-3 lead by halftime, then used the second half to extend that advantage even further and remain undefeated on the season.

This game was originally supposed to be the season opener for the Tar Heels, until COVID-19 issues within the James Madison program forced UNC to play Stony Brook instead.

When Virginia Tech was forced to postpone a game against UNC earlier this month, it created a natural opening for this game to be rescheduled.

The Tar Heels have now won their last 16 games in a streak that includes a perfect 7-0 record in the shortened 2020 campaign.

UNC will go for its 17th win in a row on Saturday, when it hosts Mercer at 1 p.m. for another non-conference game.
