For the first time since 1996, the 15th-ranked UNC baseball team completed a three-game series sweep over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets–scoring seven runs in the seventh inning on Sunday on the way to a 10-3 blowout victory at Boshamer Stadium.

The Tar Heels (27-13, 15-6 ACC) jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage in the first three innings, before looking to junior right-hander Cooper Criswell to hold onto the lead for most of the afternoon

Criswell struck out five batters and surrendered just one run across a career-high seven innings, while giving up only four hits.

There would be no need for him to stay on for the eighth, however, as the UNC offense exploded for seven runs in the home half of the frame–led by a two-run homer from Zack Gahagan and a pair of two-run doubles from Ike Freeman and Cody Roberts.

Georgia Tech (22-19)added two more runs in the top of the eighth, but the outcome was no longer in doubt by that point.

It marks the third consecutive ACC series win for UNC, which sits atop the league’s Coastal Division and is tied atop the overall conference leaderboard with rival NC State.
