Off to a scorching hot start to the 2018 season, UNC sophomore first baseman Michael Busch was recognized Monday by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper as one of its National Players of the Week for his recent efforts.

The Tar Heels split four games this past week–winning against Maryland on Tuesday before dropping two out of three against Florida State over the weekend–but Busch still played well enough to stand off the page.

He combined to go 7-for-13 at the plate with three home runs, 10 RBIs and six walks–all while posting an incredible slugging percentage of 1.308.

In Friday’s win over the Seminoles in the first leg of a doubleheader, Busch homered twice to carry the Tar Heels to the victory.

So far this season, Busch leads the team with seven home runs and leads the entire country with 37 RBIs. For a bit of perspective, no other player on the UNC roster has driven in more than 17 runs.

Busch and the Tar Heels are currently 14-10 (5-4 ACC) this season, and will return to action on Tuesday to face the Charlotte 49ers at BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte.
