We’re all spending a bit more time indoors, these days. When faced with the prospect of watching one more episode of whatever you’re into or staring at the wall, waiting for another day to arrive — the choice is obvious.
Luckily, the screens in your homes can have other uses once you’ve exhausted your supply of fresh TV or patience for loose plot threads. Last time, we talked about streams where you’d find marine life — but today, we’re specifically staying on dry land for our low-impact high-value nature-forward content.
The North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro is currently closed to visitors, but zookeepers are keeping in touch using the hashtag #ClosedButStillCaring on Facebook as they livestream frequent educational updates and videos of animals.
The NC Zoo’s “Virtual Visit” program also provides folks staying at home and maintaining social distance an opportunity to check out what’s going on with the wildlife with specific, structured events broadcast live!
On the other side of the United States, the San Diego Zoo is making full use of its suite of live feeds and providing remote viewers with close-up looks at elephants, owls, koalas and more!
Closer to home, the Smithsonian National Zoo has a few wild features of its own — the cheetah cub cam and panda livestream being two particular standouts. Of course, when it comes to pandas on live cameras, there’s no substitute for the Woolong Grove Panda Yard in Sichuan, China.
You can also find live cams — as well as highlight footage from past days — on explore.org. From bald eagles nesting in Iowa to gorillas who make their home in the DRC, you’ll find it there.
That’s a lot of cameras to click and footage to view, so enjoy the time off from regular TV and tune in text time when we explore some livestreams of animals you’re a great deal more likely to run into at home — like napping cats, for example.
