The Daydream District joined Aaron Keck on Live & Local this week, fresh off the release of their latest album “Treehouse Fires” – and two days before their first-ever live show.

The Daydream District started out as a “bedroom music project” for Scott Ivey, together with his wife Jeni. “At the time,” he says, “I was (thinking) this is just for me.”

But when their first album, 2021’s “God Damned the Scatterbrain,” got interest from a music label, Ivey says he realized his “bedroom project” was going to need a full band.

“So I went to good old Craigslist,” he says.

Through Craigslist Ivey found drummer Danny Sullivan – who in turn brought in bassist Lou Tufillaro, with whom he was already working on a different project. Guitarist Geoff Bradshaw came in shortly thereafter, to complete the foursome.

Now, the band is ready to take the next step – into the world of live performance. Remarkably, though “Treehouse Fires” is their second full-length album, The Daydream District still has not played a live show. (An earlier scheduled performance got called off at the last minute, for the best possible reason: Scott’s wife gave birth that night.)

But that’s about to change: on Sunday, September 29, The Daydream District will play at 401 Main in downtown Carrboro, as part of the annual Carrboro Music Festival.

After that, the band will immediately return to releasing new music – starting with a cover of Elastica’s “Connection,” which is set to drop in October.

Scott Ivey, Geoff Bradshaw, Danny Sullivan, and Lou Tufillaro stopped by Live & Local this week to discuss the album and play two songs, “Puppet Shadows” and “Winter Demons” – technically, their first ever public performance for a live listening audience. They also gave us a sneak peek at their new single, “Connection.”
