Following his team’s finish as a national quarterfinalist for the second straight season, David Ford of the UNC men’s golf team was named as one of five members of the Golf Coaches Association of America’s All-Freshman Team Thursday.

Ford tied for fifth place in stroke play in last weekend’s NCAA Championship, the second-best placement for any freshman in the field. He then won his quarterfinal match against Pepperdine’s Joe Highsmith, though Carolina lost the match to the Waves, 3-2.

Over the course of the season, Ford put together a 70.54 stroke average over 37 rounds, the fourth-lowest in UNC history and the second-lowest ever by a UNC freshman. His 23 rounds under par led the team, and he finished in the top 10 six times.

Ford’s All-Freshman status is just another honor for the Carolina star, who also earned All-America honors due to his NCAA finish, won ACC Freshman of the Year (UNC’s second straight winner, after Peter Fountain) and was a member of the All-ACC team.
