The UNC women’s lacrosse team was well-represented in the ACC’s annual player and coach awards, which were announced Tuesday morning. Of the five major awards given out by the conference, four of them were won by Tar Heels.

Reigning ACC Tournament MVP Jamie Ortega was named the conference’s Attacker of the Year. Ortega broke the conference’s all-time points record in the conference championship win over Boston College. She ranked fourth in the ACC this season in goals per game (3.33), first in assists per game (2.11) and second in points per game (5.44). She recorded at least two points in each of Carolina’s 18 games so far this season.

Ally Mastroianni won the ACC’s Midfielder of the Year award. She led UNC with 116 draw controls this season, which ranked fifth in the ACC. The 2022 season also saw Mastroianni’s offensive output take a leap, as she scored 40 goals for the first time in her collegiate career. Her 48 points were a career-high.

Emma Trenchard was named the ACC Defender of the Year. She anchored a defense which allowed 10 or more goals only five times through 18 games. UNC’s 155 goals allowed this season were by far the lowest in the conference, with the next-best team sitting at 189.

Head coach Jenny Levy took home the conference’s Coach of the Year honor. The only head coach in UNC program history, Levy has led Carolina to seven ACC Tournament titles and six straight, as well as 17 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.

Carolina will begin NCAA Tournament play Sunday at noon at Dorrance Field against either Virginia or USC. They are the No. 1 overall seed in the field.
