Following their sixth straight ACC Tournament title, the undefeated UNC women’s lacrosse team earned the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament Sunday night. It’s the second straight season the Tar Heels have been the tournament’s No. 1 overall seed.

As the top seed, Carolina will host a three-team pod in Chapel Hill this weekend. The Tar Heels have a first-round bye, and will face the winner of USC and Virginia on Sunday at 12 p.m. The winner of that game will advance to the national quarterfinals the following Thursday, which could potentially be another UNC home game if they advance. After that, the tournament moves to the Final Four in Baltimore.

Carolina is one of six ACC teams in the tournament, the most of any conference. The Tar Heels are joined by No. 3 overall seed Boston College, No. 5 overall seed Syracuse, Virginia, Duke and Notre Dame. In addition, several of Carolina’s non-conference opponents made the field. Northwestern, Florida, Jacksonville and James Madison will each be competing.

This is UNC’s 17th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and 23rd overall, all of which have come under head coach Jenny Levy. Levy’s 36 all-time tournament wins are the fourth-most in history. The Tar Heels have made the Final Four in each of the past three tournaments and nine times in the past 12, but haven’t hoisted the championship trophy since 2016.
