Sunday afternoon saw a pair of top-10 women’s soccer teams square off in Durham, with the top-ranked Tar Heels ultimately coming out on top with a 2-0 victory over the No. 7 Duke Blue Devils.
UNC moves to 3-0-0 to begin the season, with the difference on the scoreboard coming courtesy of an own goal by Duke in the 38th minute–a goal which was the direct result of a scramble following a UNC corner kick attempt.
Just under six minutes later, the Tar Heels doubled the lead with a goal off the head of sophomore forward Izzy Brown. The goal was the first of Brown’s collegiate career.
Duke (1-1-2) managed to put together six shots in the second half, but the Tar Heel defense held strong to claim the shutout victory.
