Meredith College announced Wednesday it has come to an agreement to hire former UNC All-American LaQuanda Barksdale-Quick as its new women’s basketball head coach.

Barksdale-Quick is expected to officially start the job and get on the road recruiting as of July 1.

A First Team All-American and three-time All-ACC selection while at UNC from 1997-2001, she went on to become a first round WNBA Draft pick by the Portland Fire in 2001.

From there, Barksdale-Quick went on to finish her playing career overseas before becoming an assistant coach for both the boys and girls basketball teams at West Forsyth High School in her hometown of Winston Salem–where she ultimately became head coach of the girls’ program after two years.

She went on to become an assistant at Winston-Salem State and then most recently at the University of West Florida.

UNC honored her No. 33 jersey in 2009.

“I’m extremely excited about my new role as head coach at Meredith College,” Quick said. “My hope is to quickly help basketball catch up to the success of the other Avenging Angels’ teams. I can’t wait to get started on building a championship program.”
