According to Inside Carolina’s Ross Martin, a UNC men’s basketball team spokesman confirmed Friday that guard Anthony Harris and forward Sterling Manley will each receive medical redshirts after missing the majority of the 2019-20 season.
Harris played five games as a freshman before tearing his ACL late in UNC’s win over Yale at the Smith Center on Dec. 30, averaging 6.8 points in 12 minutes of action per game. He missed the early portion of the Tar Heels’ schedule as well, coming off another torn ACL he suffered as a high school senior.
For Manley, the future is more uncertain. The Ohio native was productive off the bench as a freshman during the 2017-18 season, but has played in just 16 games since with lingering knee soreness. He did not play in a single game for the Tar Heels last season and had surgery in December to repair cartilage in his left knee.
Harris will be classified as a redshirt freshman next season, while Manley will be a redshirt junior.
