As Friday’s deadline for voter registration in North Carolina is quickly approaching, UNC head football coach Mack Brown told reporters on Wednesday that all players on the team have registered to vote.

That initiative is also spreading throughout the athletic department, as a UNC spokesperson confirmed that as of Wednesday afternoon 13 of the school’s teams have registered each of their players to vote.

Brown recently joined men’s basketball coach Roy Williams for a short video explaining all the information needed to register and vote in North Carolina.

It was the Tar Heel players who first raised the idea with their coach, however, doing so prior to the season starting.

“When we had all of our hard discussions about COVID and social injustice, that was actually one of their requests,” Brown said. “They wanted everybody to have an opportunity to vote and to help some of them who didn’t know how to vote, vote.”

In addition to the football team, the following programs are also fully registered: men’s basketball, women’s basketball, field hockey, men’s fencing, men’s golf, women’s lacrosse, rowing, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis, gymnastics and volleyball.

Many of the other programs are nearing full registration, and are actively working to do so by Friday’s deadline.

UNC is also keeping information and education materials on their official athletics website.
