Thursday’s ACC Tournament opener against seventh-seeded Syracuse could not have gone any better for the No. 2 seed UNC women’s lacrosse team, which used six goals from Jamie Ortega–and five more from Kara Klages–to defeat the Orange 21-12 at Koskinen Stadium in Durham.

Ela Hazar added three goals and four assists, while Katie Hoeg chipped in two goals and five assists of her own as the Tar Heels rolled to their second nine-goal victory over Syracuse (9-9) in the last two weeks.

The 21 goals scored by the Tar Heels (13-3) also tied the single-game ACC tournament record, with a total of seven different players getting in on the action.

UNC opened the game on an 11-2 run and never once looked back, showing the rest of the tournament field the team is clicking on all cylinders right now.

In total, the Tar Heels recorded 43 shots to just 24 for the Orange.
