UNC head women’s basketball coach Courtney Banghart announced Tuesday that the program has hired Caleb Krueger as its head strength and conditioning coach.

Krueger arrives in Chapel Hill after serving in a similar role for both the men’s and women’s basketball teams for the last two years at the University of Kansas.

His job at UNC will be to direct, design and implement all strength and conditioning programming for Banghart’s Tar Heels.

“Caleb came to our applicant pool with the highest of praise from some of the most trusted in the business,” Banghart said. “Then, throughout the course of the interview process, it became more than clear that he is the perfect fit for this staff and program.

“Caleb brings an incredible knowledge base, a relentless passion for the development of the athlete, and a proven ability to be a great teammate,” she added. “His thoughtful programming will ensure the synergy required for the whole-body development of our players. Simply put, we are committed to hiring for impact here, and Caleb will make a huge one for us.”

Krueger has a degree in exercise science from Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas–where he graduated cum laude and with Dean’s List honors back in 2016.

He becomes the second major staff hire in the last two weeks for the program, with former Tar Heel national champion Jackie Manuel also joining Banghart and company as they look to bring the program back to prominence.

“I am truly honored and blessed to become a part of such a historic program with a storied past,” Krueger said. “To say that I am excited to join Coach Banghart and her staff would be an understatement. Becoming part of a staff that is not only competitive and relentless when it comes to developing the student-athlete, but also collaborative and forward-thinking in how they do so was key for me when accepting this position.”
