UNC sophomore defender John Nelson was selected Monday to TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Preseason Best XI Team, following a debut campaign where he earned All-ACC Freshman Team honors.

Nelson started all 22 games for UNC last year as the Tar Heels qualified for their second consecutive NCAA College Cup appearance, while also scoring a goal and dishing out an assist.

The 2018 regular season begins for Nelson and the third-ranked Tar Heels on Aug. 24 when they host East Tennessee State in Greensboro.
