The 15th-ranked UNC men’s soccer team battled to a scoreless 0-0 draw on the road against Syracue on Saturday, ending what had been a two-game winning streak to begin the spring season for the Tar Heels.
For the year, UNC is now 5-3-3 overall but the Tar Heels’ spring performance of seven points through three games is enough to have them atop the ACC Coastal Division.
Syracuse is now 1-6-4 overall and remains winless in conference play at 0-5-3.
The Tar Heels tallied eight shots across both halves and both overtime periods on Saturday–including three from two-time defending ACC Offensive Player of the Week Giovanni Montesdeoca. Nothing made its way into the net, however, leaving zeroes on the scoreboard for both teams.
UNC goalie Alec Smir didn’t even need to make a save to earn his eighth shutout of the season, as both of Syracuse’s shots were off target.
Up Next:
The Tar Heels return to action next Saturday night, March 27, at Notre Dame. That match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
