By scoring seven runs in the seventh inning, No. 21 Boston College turned a close game into a rout on Saturday afternoon in Chestnut Hill–as the Eagles would go on to defeat the No. 14 UNC baseball team by a score of 10-3.

Over the first three innings, Boston College (11-6, 3-5 ACC) built a 3-0 lead on the strength of a sacrifice fly, an RBI groundout and a solo home run from Luke Gold.

UNC (11-6, 7-4 ACC) got on the board in the fifth inning thanks to an RBI double by Angel Zarate, but the Tar Heel comeback was thwarted in the seventh. Zarate tallied three of UNC’s hits in the game, while extending his streak of consecutive games reaching base to 37.

Boston College scored seven runs on just four hits, as three Tar Heel relievers combined to issue five walks in the frame.

Both Eric Grintz and Jake Holtzapple added pinch hit RBIs for UNC in the eighth inning. By that point, though, it was too late as Boston College’s lead was too much to overcome.
