Despite out-shooting its opponents 13-3 on Friday night at Dorrance Field, the 15th-ranked UNC men’s soccer team was defeated 1-0 by Virginia Tech on Senior Night.
Kristo Strickler’s goal for the Hokies came in the 52nd minute and would end up being the only goal of the entire match.
Strickler scored from point-blank range after an assist from teammate Nathan Durst, dropping the Tar Heels to 6-4-3 overall this season and 6-2-3 inside the ACC.
Virginia Tech (5-6-2, 4-5-2) was also aided by 10 saves from goalkeeper Matt Zambetti.
This game marked the final regular season home appearances for Tar Heel seniors Giovanni Montesdeoca and Mark Salas, who are graduating and moving on to play professionally.
