A 3-0 victory by the fourth-ranked UNC men’s soccer team over the No. 22 Virginia Tech Hokies on Sunday at WakeMed Soccer Park advanced the Tar Heels into the ACC Tournament Semifinals.

It was the fourth consecutive shutout on defense for UNC (13-2-1), which took the lead just 12 minutes into the game on a goal from Jeremy Kelly and never looked back.

The second goal came in the 38th minute on a brilliant touch by Mauricio Pineda. Insurance was then added later on in the 75th minute in the form of Jack Skahan’s sixth goal in the last four outings.

Virginia Tech (10-6-3) tallied seven shots in the match, compared to 13 for UNC, as the Tar Heel defense has now recorded four straight shutouts for the second time this season.
