Saturday night’s top-25 men’s soccer showdown at Koskinen Stadium in Durham between No. 3 UNC and No. 19 Virginia Tech saw the Tar Heels eke out a 2-1 victory thanks to two goals from senior forward Nils Bruening.

Bruening scored the first goal of the game in the 21st minute, then ended up breaking a 1-1 tie in the 84th minute–just before the end of regulation–to give UNC (9-1-0) the victory.

Virginia Tech (6-4-2) got on the board just before halftime on a header from Vincent Jackson II, but as a team the Hokies only managed to put one other shot on goal in the match–despite attempting 10 total shots.
