A tight, 4-3 victory over the No. 2 seed Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Saturday morning at the Cary Tennis Center moved the third-seeded UNC women’s tennis team into the ACC Tournament Final on Sunday.
The Tar Heels uncharacteristically lost the doubles point for the second straight day, but rallied with a strong performance in singles play to clinch its third consecutive berth in the league championship match.
After UNC rallied to tie the team score at 3-3 on Saturday, all eyes were on Court One for the matchup between the Tar Heels’ No. 7 Makenna Jones and No. 13 Paige Hourigan–which Jones ultimately won 7-6, 7-5 to clinch the victory for head coach Brian Kalbas and company.
