Three runs in the top of the eighth inning Friday night at Doak Field in Raleigh helped the 10th-ranked UNC baseball team come from behind to defeat the No. 3 NC State Wolfpack in the series opener between the two rivals.

Sophomore shortstop Ike Freeman’s only hit of the game was a two-run double in the eighth that turned a 4-3 deficit into a 6-4 lead–with Michael Busch and Kyle Datres scoring first, then Brandon Riley reaching home later in the play after an errant throw to second base.

The Wolfpack (31-9, 15-7 ACC) got one run back in the home half of the eighth, and even loaded the bases against senior reliever Brett Daniels with two outs in the frame.

UNC head coach Mike Fox then turned to Joey Lancellotti, however, who came on and recorded a four-out save to clinch the victory for the Tar Heels (29-13, 16-6 ACC).
