The top-ranked UNC women’s tennis team passed a tough road test with flying colors on Sunday in Atlanta, defeating No. 13 Georgia Tech by a score of 6-1.
After the Tar Heels (15-0, 6-0 ACC) took the doubles point to begin the match, Georgia Tech (11-7, 4-3 ACC) tied the team score with a singles victory on Court One from No. 13 ranked Kenya Jones–who defeated UNC’s No. 4 ranked Sara Daavettila in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2.
From there, UNC answered by winning each of the next five singles contests. Wins from Cameron Morra (6-1, 6-4), Makenna Jones (6-3, 6-4) and Reilly Tran (6-1, 6-4) were enough to clinch the team win for the Tar Heels, but Fiona Crawley (4-6, 6-4, 6-2) and Anika Yarlagaada (6-4, 6-4) got the job done as well.
For UNC, this extends the program’s all-time record to 33 consecutive dual match victories in a streak dating back to the season opener in 2020.
