The ACC released its 62nd annual Academic Honor Roll on Friday, with UNC setting a new school record after a whopping 391 Tar Heel athletes earned recognition.
It marks the fifth time in six years–and third in a row–that UNC has broken its own all-time mark, and its the sixth consecutive year that at least 300 Tar Heels were honored.
To qualify for the ACC Academic Honor Roll, student-athletes must have participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a grade point average of 3.0 or better for the full academic year.
A total of 4,650 student-athletes were listed by the ACC this year, which also set a new all-time mark for the conference.
The number of UNC athletes recognized represents roughly half of the school’s entire student-athlete population.
“We strive to continue to improve in every area, and academic performance is at the top of that list,” UNC Director of Athletics Bubba Cunningham said, in a statement released by the university. “We’re very proud of our student-athletes’ academic achievement and the fact that for the third year in a row we’ve had a record number of Tar Heels named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll. We congratulate all of these students and applaud them for their hard work and the way they represent Carolina.”
