The NCAA released its most recent Graduation Success Rate numbers on Wednesday, with a total of 16 UNC athletic programs exceeding the national average.

Graduation Success Rates are measured by taking into account student-athletes who are on scholarship their first year and who graduate from their respective university and those who transfer to another university while in good academic standing.

The rates released on Wednesday represent athletes who were in school from 2008 to 2011.

UNC sports teams that exceeded the national average included: women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, women’s fencing, women’s golf, gymnastics, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, men’s tennis, men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field and volleyball.

The overall graduation rate across the UNC athletic program was at 83 percent.
