Tuesday night marked the release of the first College Football Playoff rankings of the 2020 season, with UNC checking in at No. 19.
The Tar Heels — who have gone 6-2 through their first eight games — are six places higher in these rankings than their spot at No. 25 in the Associated Press poll.
Alabama, Notre Dame, Clemson and Ohio State represent the top four teams in the country, and would be the schools competing for the national championship if the season was over.
UNC will have a chance this Friday to send shockwaves through the playoff rankings, with No. 2 Notre Dame making a visit to Kenan Stadium.
Rounding out the top 10 is a group including: No. 5 Texas A&M, No. 6 Florida, No. 7 Cincinnati, No. 8 Northwestern, No. 9 Georgia and No. 10 Miami.
