UNC women’s tennis freshman Alle Sanford earned a prestigious honor on Monday, as she was named to the roster for Team USA in the annual Master’U BNP Paribas International Collegiate Team Competition –an event which runs from Nov. 30-Dec. 3 in Marcq-en-Baroeul, France.

A total of three women and three men were selected to the team, with Sanford becoming only the second Tar Heel to receive the call–following in the footsteps of former standout Hayley Carter, who won a title with Team USA in 2016.

Sanford came to Chapel Hill as one of the nation’s top recruits, and confirmed the hype by winning the singles tournament at the Oracle ITA Masters tournament in September.

She joins UCLA’s Ena Shibahara (ranked No. 1 in the country) and Pepperdine’s Ashley Lahey (No. 3) on the women’s side.

Brandon Holt (USC), Alfredo Perez (Florida) and Martin Redlicki (UCLA) were the three men chosen to the roster.

Team USA has won six consecutive Master’U titles, and seven in the last eight years.

Led by Boise State men’s coach Greg Patton and Ohio State women’s coach Melissa Schaub, the United States will face off against competition from  Belgium, China, France, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland and Russia.

Each team match is made up of four singles matches (two men’s, two women’s), two same-gender doubles matches (one men’s, one women’s) and one mixed doubles match.
