Although UNC advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals on Sunday in this year’s baseball tournament, perhaps the most important news surrounding the Tar Heel baseball team happened on Monday.

Jordyn Adams–a prospect out of Green Hope High School in Cary who is committed to play wide receiver for Larry Fedora’s football team–was selected 17th overall by the Los Angeles Angels in the first round of the MLB Draft.

A two-sport All-American, Adams is the son of UNC defensive line coach Deke Adams.

The 6-foot-1-inch receiver now has to choose between playing football in college at UNC for at least three years or to determine whether or not he will sign with the Angels’ organization.

Based on MLB’s slot value for players selected in Adams’ position at 17th overall, he should receive a contract offer of at least $3,472,900 by the Angels.

As a receiver in football this past season at Green Hope, Adams caught 52 passes for 1,060 yards and 12 touchdowns–while also hitting .453 as the centerfielder for the school’s baseball team in the spring.

He will be a walk-on the UNC baseball team provided he decides he will play football at the school.
