After waiting for 186 names to be called across two days in the 2018 MLB Draft, UNC finally had a player selected on Tuesday when the New York Yankees selected junior right-hander Rodney Hutchison in the sixth round with the 187th overall pick.

Hutchison has played a key role for UNC as a mid-week starter and out of the bullpen over the last two seasons.

In 2017 as a sophomore, he posted a 7-4 record with a 4.14 ERA while striking out 53 hitters across 58.2 innings. This year Hutchison has gone 3-3 with a 4.63 ERA in 58.1 innings.

Against North Carolina A&T back on March 13 of this year, Hutchison had his signature performance as a Tar Heel–throwing a complete game shutout.

This year’s NCAA Tournament has seen the big righty throw two scoreless innings in appearances against both NC A&T and Houston.
