For the first time all season under new head coach Scott Forbes, the UNC baseball team had its record fall below .500 following a 3-2 home loss on Tuesday to UNCG.
The Tar Heels have dropped six of their last seven games and are now 21-22 overall this year with only seven games remaining on the schedule.
A two-run homer by Greg Hardison in the top of the first inning put UNCG (25-21) ahead right from the start.
The Tar Heels clawed back to tie the game with a solo home run by Mac Horvath in the second inning and an eighth inning RBI singly from Tyler Causey.
UNCG went back ahead in the ninth inning with a run against UNC reliever Caden O’Brien, a run that ultimately would prove to be the difference when the Tar Heels failed to score in the home half of the frame.
