For just the third time all season long–a year consisting of 21 matches so far–the top-ranked UNC women’s tennis team came up short in its attempt to clinch the doubles point.

Despite being in an unfamiliar spot heading into the singles portion of the match–and playing on the road–the Tar Heels responded beautifully with six consecutive victories to earn a 6-1 team win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

UNC improved to 19-2 this season with the win, including a stellar 8-1 mark against conference opponents. Notre Dame, meanwhile, fell to 10-9 overall with a 2-7 record in the ACC.

Alexa Graham tied the score at 1-1 after defeating Notre Dame’s Brooke Broda 6-2, 6-2 on Court Two, and from there the onslaught continued to get worse.

Four of the six Tar Heel winners dispatched their opponents in straight sets, while Marika Akkerman and Jessie Aney had no troubles closing out the third set in their matches.

It also represented the 10th victory on the road for UNC this season in 10 tries, as head coach Brian Kalbas’ squad continues to show why it’s considered among the best in America.

Up Next;
UNC will stay on the road for its next match, which is scheduled for Sunday at Louisville with a start time of 11 a.m.
