Despite suffering a heartbreaking loss at Virginia this past Saturday, UNC sophomore quarterback Sam Howell and junior wide receiver Dyami Brown were each named the ACC Player of the Week at their positions.
Howell threw for a career-high 443 passing yards and four touchdowns against Virginia, while throwing only five incompletions as he nearly guided the Tar Heels back from a 21-point deficit. His passing yardage total is the third-highest single-game total in UNC history.
Brown was Howell’s top target on Saturday, as he also set career-bests with 11 catches, 240 yards and three touchdowns. The 240 yards are the most by an ACC receiver since 2018 and second most in program history for a single game.
The Tar Heels still fell to 4-2 with the loss, however, and fell outside of the AP Top 25 rankings. They will have a chance to get back in the win column this weekend with a rivalry game at Duke.
