The ACC revealed its weekly football awards on Monday, with a trio of Tar Heels recognized for their efforts in UNC’s 59-53 win over Wake Forest on Saturday.

Sophomore Sam Howell was named the Quarterback of the Week after setting a new school record with 550 passing yards. He also threw for six touchdowns and ran for another late in the game to become the first player in ACC history to account for seven touchdowns in a conference game.

This was Howell’s second ACC weekly award in the last three weeks.

In addition, Dazz Newsome earned Receiver of the Week honors after catching 10 passes for a career-high 189 yards and two touchdowns, while Michael Carter claimed Co-Running Back of the Week status after rushing for 120 yards on just 17 carries.

UNC is now 6-2 this season and is off this weekend in preparation for the team’s showdown against No. 2 Notre Dame on Friday, November 27.
